Maybe DC's "big news" about Nightwing shouldn't be

For DC's Forever Evil crossover, they've said they have major news about Dick Grayson coming in September.

But even if it's not bad news, should the internet go haywire as their marketing manager John Cunningham and company are hoping? I think it's better if fans don't give it any attention. They say here:
Because Nightwing was the original Robin, he–or rather, his secret identity, Dick Grayson–has more penetration into mainstream media than most non-A-list superheroes. If something happens with Dick, it’s fairly likely that outlets who rarely cover comics would take an interest, likely pursuing the Robin angle.
And that's what DC is counting on, not on whether they think the story's any good (and the mainstream outlets are unlikely to take an objective view of it either). It makes me think of something they've probably never done: never tried to send review copies of a particular story to news outlets asking them to do a writeup about it, and tell what they think, which would be a much more legitimate way to appeal to wider audiences.

I don't know what plans DC has in store for Nightwing. All I know is that whatever they do plan, it's not worth making a fuss over since it's not something done on its own organic, self-contained terms. Greeting it with a wall of silence and no money shelled out to buy it would do a lot more good.

Yawn. They will probably kill him off, then revive him six months later. Or maybe they plan to reveal he's gay, but they are unlikely to do that with a character who is known to the general public. (Alan Scott is not even a major star among comic book fans.) Whatever it is, they will use it for its 15 minutes of fame, then retcon it out of existence.

I think they're going to have the villains break him, then turn him into a villain. A Didio fate worse than death.
