Marie Severin passes away at 89

The Washington Post reported about the death of illustrator Severin, one of the earliest women to work in comics. What's interesting about this news is that it also puts the lie to the notion nobody ever wanted women in comicdom, or that nobody was ever willing to hire them. Consider, that her credits for Marvel include developments of the Hulk, Sub-Mariner and Doctor Strange, and not only that:
In the 1970s, Ms. Severin was a co-creator of Jessica Drew — better known as the superhero Spider-Woman — and designed the character’s skintight red-and-yellow costume.
Yes, this is quite similar to how Vampirella was co-created by a woman - Trina Robbins - who was practically the illustrator. And it contradicts the whole notion women have a problem with hot costumes and bodies on the superheroines. But don't expect any of today's SJWs to respect that Severin had some very admirable ideas in her portfolio, seeing how in recent years they did everything they could to ruin what made the first Spider-Woman great.

Severin was a very fine artist with inspiring ideas what could make a great superheroine. It's just too bad there's a certain leftist crowd out there who won't appreciate that in her time, Severin made some excellent contributions that deserve respect long after she's gone.

Here's news on Stan Lee's tribute to Severin.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
