The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

Another DC x-over may be on the horizon

Proving, if anything, that they're still unwilling to stop short-changing people's wallets. This entry from Newsarama talks about at least four one-shots that may lead up to the umpteenth crossover, called - guess what? - World War Three!
As hinted at – heavily – in the weekly 52 series (and seen briefly in Justice Society #1), sometime before the 52 ends, World War III will shake the world. Actually, the date for the war is pretty specific – it will occur in Week 50 of 52.

But – war is big and messy. As such, it sometimes can’t be contained to one series or one issue. To get the larger picture of the war, DC has confirmed for Newsarama that there will be four one shots shipping during Week 50 as well, all tied to the events of World War III.
Big, messy, and doubtless expensive too, and may even be as underwhelming as countless other crossovers of yore. Perhaps that's the reason why I'd rather refrain.

It does say here though that,
Along with telling of the war, and how it rages through the DC Universe, the four regular-sized special issues will also answer some nagging questions that have been topics of discussion for DC readers since the start of One Year Later in the books – things like: How did Firestorm get separated from Cyborg and then merge with Firehawk? Why is Cassandra Cain evil? Why did Jason Todd take over the Nightwing mantle? When did the Teen Titans disband? How’d Martian Manhunter transform?
On Cassandra, a better question might be, why does she have to be evil, and, are they going to bring her back to the good side? Even if she's not Batgirl anymore, I think that's what more than a few people out there would appreciate.

Okay, another question: what's the whole point of bringing back Jason Todd, if that's really him out there? And if he was really taking up the Nightwing mantle during the missing year...I disapprove.

And, while they don't seem to mention it here, some really good questions that could also be asked include: a]why did Dr. Light do something so out-of-character as raping a defensless woman, b]why would Jean Loring have committed a murder, supposedly to get her husband back, if she was the one who left Ray Palmer in the first place and was jealous of no one, and c]why would even Max Lord be acting out-of-character?

Those are questions they could answer, but who knows if they will?
