Scott Snyder clearly wants to discourage readership of Batman

USA Today wrote about Scott Snyder's upcoming crossover in Batman with the Joker returning to attack just about all the Bat-family, and it sounds like quite a money-waster that'll take up too many titles:
His goal for "Death of the Family" is to include "everything we would ever want to do with the character," the writer [Snyder] says.

"Let's make this Joker story the biggest, baddest, most terrifying thing we could possibly do so that no one wants to use the character again in this way for another 20 years."
He already hinted earlier at what may be in store, and that's why nobody with common sense may want to use the Clown Prince of Crime in a DC story ever again. Which would probably be for the best. These shock stunts have gotten way out of hand and are only bound to leave everybody with a bad aftertaste, not wanting to read or write another Joker story for eternity.

This crossover is also symbolic of the problem today's writers have with "villain worship" where they seem more interested in building up the villains than the heroes, and that's why Batman, among plenty of other DC series, is no longer enjoyable or involving.

  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
