Brian Bendis has also voiced his hostility to Orson Scott Card

It's rare that I spot Bendis making political statements outside the pages of the comics he writes, which are pretentious enough already as it is, but now, he's opened his mouth on a Tumblr blog he's got (indeed, there are quite a few writers/artists using those as much as a Twitter account), in reply to a conservative lamenting the witch hunt against OSC. He says:
like you, I don’t like witch hunts and I don’t like people not being able to make a living… even if they don’t agree with me or are pushing against the tide of popular belief.

the problem here is not that he believes something to the left or the right but because its pretty much hate speech. he is going out of his way to try to deny people their rights as human beings. he is using fancy words so it doesn’t always seem like hate speech but it is. at least it is to me and, obviously, to many others.

it flies in the face of the empathy that I expect from writers.
Well I guess we couldn't expect much else from him other than the constant "hate speech" cliche. If he were an animal rights activist, would he be fine if those "rights" included beastiality, even if it flew in the face of his beliefs in rights for animals? His take on Card is also mighty rich coming from someone who had an extremely crude take on Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Disassembled.

This marks the first time I've stumbled over Bendis making a politicized statement for the sake of a belief system that's obsessed with abnormal sexuality.

No wonder why I've never liked Bendis.

I had a good laugh about Bendis' empathy line, considering all he does is build up and then ruthlessly destroy his characters (and, then, others that he outwardly dislike, like Wanda, well, we don't need to go there).

As for the issue and the bestiality, not much I can add to that. I'll wait 10 years and wait for the same comic writers to suddenly love polygamy, as many of America's new African and Middle East immigrants believe in it. You guys wouldn't want to be racist and deny a guy two-three wives, do you?

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
