The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

The historical portrayal of doctors and medics in comics

Phys-Org has an article about how practitioners of medicine and surgery were portrayed in past history of comic books and newspaper strips. But at the end, it looks like this article fell victim to more possible social justice mentality:
However, she said, doctors are still portrayed mostly as white males, and most often as surgeons. As with comics generally, there is a need for greater ethnic, racial and gender diversity, as well as more diversity of specialties within the health care profession to ensure that everyone's stories are told, Tilley said.
Oh for heaven's sake. Is this such a big deal? Besides, Jane Foster began as a nurse, and became more of a doctor in later years of Thor and Marvel's history. And now, they may have killed her off via cancer after turning her into a female Thor for the sake of social justice idiocy, which the leftist press lost interest in pretty quickly. I'll agree though that ethnicity, if synonymous with nationalities and different races overseas, is something comicdom could offer more of. But that's not what the elitists running the show care about.

This is intriguing. Why "nationalities and different races overseas", as opposed to nationalities and different races at home?
