Chuck Dixon's sequel to Airboy

When Dixon began his career as far back as the mid-80s, one of the first comics he wrote was a newer take on Airboy. Now, he's crowdfunded and is sending a new sequel starring the son of the original protagonist to press, and spoke about it with Newsarama. It's a story set in the late 1980s, and deals with a topic relevant to the times in south Africa:
Nrama: So this new run starts off with Airboy #51, picking up from where you left off. What's going on in the story at this point?

Dixon: At the end of Airboy #50, Davy Nelson Jr, the son of the Golden Age Airboy has been cast out of the weird, hellish dimension ruled by his arch-nemesis Misery. He’s lost somewhere on Earth and his miracle plane, Birdie, is missing as well. Valkyrie, Skywolf scan the globe for him while Airboy becomes involved in his own adventure in South Africa. This story takes place in 1989 so we’re talking apartheid.
Interesting. I've got a feeling a right-winger like him could have a far better idea of how to handle a story like this than a left-winger could, so, it should prove worth reading about, and I wish him good luck in sales.

It's about time! I hope that he can get Cat Yronwode to work with him on it; her edits contiribted a lot to the storyline and she dialogued some of the best sequences in the old stories. The more recent stories Dixon did about Airboy Sr were disappointing.

  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
