Could a new Thor movie replace male star with female?

The suggestions and hints of Marvel's movies becoming more influenced by social justice mentality continue in a Los Angeles Times interview with Tessa Thompson (via Cosmic Book News and Bounding Into Comics), where she says in reply to the note about some fan art she'd reposted from more noticeably leftist Brie Larson:
"That's wild!" she said with a laugh. "It didn't even occur to me, legitimately, that it was necessarily a romantic thing. I don't even know what happens in the canon in terms of those characters or if they ever intersect, but I just love the idea of more women Marvel characters getting to intersect. I just think it's so cool and it's time and why not? There's so many compelling female characters inside of the MCU.

"And just selfishly, when I get to see those women in passing, they're all such cool women," she added. "So the idea of getting to spend time with them and hang out is so fun. I'm just excited that this new phase promises to have women and queer folks."
Naturally, she doesn't acknowledge that the reason the gals would be cool is because they once had better scriptwriting and artwork to accompany them in the comics. Or that Thor's world already had ladies like Sif and Jane Foster. But could Marvel's movie division greenlight a female-led Thor film? As a matter of fact, producer Kevin Feige said a year and a half ago they were open to the idea, and if they could make movie as biased as Captain Marvel turned out to be, right down to a Mar-Vell whose gender was changed to female, then chances are high they could do the same with Thor, using the international box office as an excuse to go through with this. At this point, you could very well assume this is why Marvel, under Axel Alonso, came up with the laughable idea of replacing male Thor with Foster, who's now becoming Valkyrie instead, even though at this point the non-novelty's grown ever more stale - so they'd have a story on which the filmmakers could build their future movies, rather than think of these things themselves.

It may only be a rumor or a suggestion at this point. But it can still give an idea just where the Marvel movieverse is headed, and in the long run, won't avail the franchise, which could end up losing financial ground in the future.

Update: let's also recall the Thor films already did take the race-changing route, much as Dr. Strange also took the gender-changing one. So now that I think of it, we should've seen this coming. As for the Capt. Marvel movie, I guess what really turned a lot of people off about it is the star's blatant political posturing, and that's what really made the whole issue so tasteless.
