South Korea's digital manhwa proves a serious competitor for Japan's manga

Here's an article in the Japan Times on the considerable gains south Korea's manhwa industry is making in webtoon formats, which is turning out to be a formidable competitor for Japanese manga in its printed formats.

Not really a big surprise. The Koreans are big on soap operas and published a great series some years back called "The Great Catsby" which was just impossible to put down. Plus, the Japanese seem to have lost their great mangaka like Rumiko Takahashi and haven't replaced them with anyone in the same class. I put that down to their big demographic changes.
