Scott Snyder buys into a media lie, or worse, perpetuates it

I found the writer of several DC titles posting the following that turned out to be a falsehood in all the time this post-George Floyd disaster came about:

Pardon? According to the Federalist, that's not what happened at all:
Facts were no barrier to their narrative. They spun a tale of violent, jack-booted cops running rampant through the streets over innocent docile protesters, using tear gas to clear the area. It turns out none of that was true.

Every single major media outlet falsely reported that Park Police were unprovoked when they used “tear gas” to clear the area. If any of that were true, it might mark the first time in history that cops without gas masks launched tear gas in an area that the president of the United States easily walked through minutes later.

After thousands of false tweets, print stories, and broadcast stories to the contrary, local journalist Neal Augenstein of WTOP reported that a Park Police source said “tear gas was never used — instead smoke canisters were deployed, which don’t have an uncomfortable irritant in them.” Further, the source said the crowd was dispersed because of projectiles being thrown by the “peaceful protesters” at the Park Police and because “peaceful protesters” had climbed on top of a structure in Lafayette Park that had been burned the prior night.

Sgt. Eduardo Delgado, the public information officer for the Park Police, confirmed the agency did not use tear gas. And later this afternoon, United States Park Police acting Chief Gregory T. Monahan exploded the entire false narrative:

On Monday, June 1, the USPP worked with the United States Secret Service to have temporary fencing installed inside Lafayette Park. At approximately 6:33 pm, violent protestors on H Street NW began throwing projectiles including bricks, frozen water bottles and caustic liquids. The protestors also climbed onto a historic building at the north end of Lafayette Park that was destroyed by arson days prior. Intelligence had revealed calls for violence against the police, and officers found caches of glass bottles, baseball bats and metal poles hidden along the street.

To curtail the violence that was underway, the USPP, following established policy, issued three warnings over a loudspeaker to alert demonstrators on H Street to evacuate the area. Horse mounted patrol, Civil Disturbance Units and additional personnel were used to clear the area. As many of the protestors became more combative, continued to throw projectiles, and attempted to grab officers’ weapons, officers then employed the use of smoke canisters and pepper balls. No tear gas was used by USPP officers or other assisting law enforcement partners to close the area at Lafayette Park. Subsequently, the fence was installed.
So many MSM outlets made false reports. And Snyder seems to be taking his cues from them. This truly crosses a line. I'm glad I don't buy his writings. On which note, somebody told him she'd have to stop following his Twitter feed because of how skewed his politics were, completely obscuring facts, not the least being that Trump wanted to visit a church vandalized by the so-called protestors. The most dumbfounding thing about people in the comics industry like Snyder is how they take a lenient view of the rioters who even went so far as to trash comic specialty stores. And they even act oblivious to the case in Virginia of rioters who set fire to a building with a child inside, and blocked firefighters from putting it out. (The child and other residents survived, thank God.) Let's also remember Snyder bragged several years ago about the Joker graduating to rape and mutilation, indicative of an unhealthy obsession with villains along with darkness that seems to run very deep within the entertainment industry as a whole. I'm wondering how a man supposedly concerned with violence in real life justifies glorifying it in fiction?

Since we're on the subject, it looks like SyFy Wire's also perpetuating falsehoods:
As protests against police brutality have gripped the nation over the past few days, much of the entertainment world has put things on pause, allowing more vital voices to be heard as a nation reels in pain.

The comics community has been no different in that regard, which means publishers haven't exactly been rolling out a lot of new announcements lately, but that doesn't mean the comics world has stayed silent. On the contrary, as the Black Lives Matter movement shines a critical spotlight on racism and injustice, comics creators and publishers have stepped up to do their part to show support and even raise funds. [...]

And then there was Birds of Prey and Clean Room writer Gail Simone, who decided to use her own massive social media following to launch an effort similar in method to the #Creators4Comics auctions launched a few weeks ago to benefit comic book stores struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In a lengthy Twitter thread Monday, Simone explained that she was prepared to auction off a piece of original Wonder Woman art given to her by George Perez (arguably the definitive Wonder woman artist) with all proceeds going to Black Lives Matter.
So now Simone - and others - are aiding a movement whose platform is not only phony, given all the horrific attacks on civilians in the past week, they even carry an anti-Israeli charter, and one of their authors defended the position. They've been condemned for it in the past few years, and it's a disgrace that people like Simone are doing favors for a movement that's basically demonizing the Jewish creators of comicdom along with everyone else. Simone should be ashamed of herself for exploiting Perez's art drafts for funding a movement that's doing more harm than good to the black community, and she doesn't seem the least bit worried about black business owners whose stores were vandalized by rioters, nor about the Jewish centers that suffered the same. Not even about a woman who was gunned down by a "protestor" in Iowa. What kind of people are these who don't look at the whole picture under a magnifying glass or a microscope working in comicdom? These phonies also include a certain G. Willow Wilson:

So she says this is a military coup, and not a crackdown on the ensuing violence that's cost even more lives than past mayhem of this sort? Tell us about it. Here's another by Kurt Busiek:

So Busiek wants to draw comparisons between Trump and actual terrorists abroad? Ugh. But then, he's gone around the bend years ago. To make matters worse, as seen in this video (via One Angry Gamer), a number of writers and artists are condoning Antifa:

I was already long aware Jeff Lemire was a most reprehensible person, and his use of a symbol drawing from Antifa along with their fake agendas doesn't improve his image. This is precisely why his books are best avoided and forgotten, and no point watching TV adaptations either. To make matters worse, Erik Larsen's also defending Antifa, as if you needed another excuse not to bankroll his books.

This is all extremely disgusting, and it demonstrates how badly comicdom's deteriorated and lost morale in modern times.

You have to be careful about buying into the Federalist's misinformation or, worse, perpetuating it.

Smoke bombs mixed with pepper spray bombs is one kind of tear gas. It causes people's eyes to water and is commonly used as tear gas. The Fedealist is relying on a fake distinction, saying tear gas means only a different chemical compound that does the same thing and is used interchangeably.

Observers on the scene and camera footage show a peaceful protest. The claim about disruption came later and is not supported by anyone who was actually there.

"On Monday, June 1, the USPP worked with the United States Secret Service to have temporary fencing installed inside Lafayette Park. At approximately 6:33 pm, violent protestors on H Street NW began throwing projectiles including bricks, frozen water bottles and caustic liquids. The protestors also climbed onto a historic building at the north end of Lafayette Park that was destroyed by arson days prior. Intelligence had revealed calls for violence against the police, and officers found caches of glass bottles, baseball bats and metal poles hidden along the street."

The 'violent protest' this describes is a version, whether accurate or not, of a confrontation that took place on Friday may 30, not on the Monday when Trump and Barr ordered the attack on the crowd so they could walk across to the church.

No way would Trump have crossed that street, or the Secret Service have allowed him to do so, if that had just been going on. The Federalist bought into a fake narrative because it was what they wanted to hear.

"So Busiek wants to draw comparisons between Trump and actual terrorists abroad? Ugh. But then, he's gone around the bend years ago."

The comparison Busiek makes is to Saddam, Bashar and Qaddafi. Strong man dictators who used military force against their own people. Trump is on that path when he talks about putting soldiers on American streets to control American citizens, against the wishes and best advice of the Pentagon.

FBI Murder statistics 2016: White murder victims killed by black offenders 533.
FBI Murder statistics 2017: Black murder victims killed by black offenders 2627
Washington Post Homicide data table: year 2019 to 2020 number of unarmed blacks killed by US police that year = 13

Number of US police killed last year = 89

Number of blacks killed in just Chicago by other blacks this year = 119

Sorry, I don't get it. Other than a naked power grab by the left.

I dig what that last post is saying. I mean, so many black people are being killed by murderers, what should it matter that a few more are being killed by cops?

Thing is though, individuals matter more to people than statistics, unfair as that may be. If you watch the video and look at the face of the policeman slowly and coldbloodedly killing a handcuffed black man pleading for his life while the crowd is yelling at the policeman to stop, you will understand the protests.

If you watch the video of the police officer in Salem Oregon telling the Proud Boys thugs to get inside before they tear gas the Black Lives Matter crowd for curfew violation - so it won't look like they are playing favorites - you will get the picture.

We don't have reliable statistics on teh number of people killed by cops each year, and the figures we do have are likely an undercount:
