If there's too much to explain in Reign of X, what was the use of doing it?

The Valdosta Daily Times wrote a brief take on the Reign of X storyline, written as a followup to X of Swords and now collected in paperback, and they actually seem to be disappointed with how it was written up as a crossover:
It's simply not enough to seemingly voice an opinion. A strong stance has to be taken on problems that end up dragging down the quality of mainstream comics too, and make clear this unrelenting reliance on such stunts at the Big Two is just not acceptable anymore. Yet the MSM keeps approaching the topics with kid gloves on their part, and as a result, these events continue apace with no objective viewpoints to argue against the storytelling method and why it's only hurting comicdom as a whole. A real shame this is what comicdom's come to.
This volume collects issues of "SWORD" (No. 1), "X-Men," "X-Factor" and "Hellions." As the Vol. 1 suggests, it is the first collection of issues from Marvel's many "X"-related titles with the framework of the massive "Reign of X" crossover.Well in that case, why do these propagandists keep taking a lenient approach to the subjects involved? Why can't they come clean and say multi-chapter crossovers spanning an entire mainstream superhero universe have to stop? If they don't write up a convincing op-ed on why these crossover events have ruined superhero comics along with divisive politics, and if neither they nor the audiences boycott the crossovers, the publishers won't let it go. How does that advice constantly elude them?
With past "X" books, I have suggested readers can catch up by knowing a few things in advance of opening a book but this does not feel true for "Reign of X." Readers need to visit other books first; there's just too much to explain.
