Rob Liefeld wants Kevin Feige dismissed from Marvel Studios
Replying to an X (formerly Twitter) thread that highlighted an 82.4% drop in the domestic box office earnings of Captain America 4 in its second theatrical weekend, Rob Liefeld stated, “Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.”Well, I don't deny it was in poor form for Feige and company to turn him away from a party, but still, let's consider all the same that Liefeld, as an artist, had very poor talent, employing as he did sloppy, derivative artwork that's aged horribly, including - but not limited to - his balloon illustration of Capt. America. And it's honestly a pity Marvel/DC had to employ him in any capacity years before. The way his poor skills were obscured by only so many PC ideologues over the years is head-shaking as it's sad, and moviegoers who discover his artwork from the 90s may rightfully wonder what the publishers and editors were thinking back when.
Liefeld, who gained global recognition for creating Deadpool with Fabian Nicieza and Cable with Louise Simonson, previously called out the Marvel Studios President for his behavior toward creators. He noted, “Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators well. That is my personal experience.”
So make what you will of Feige's cold reception in Hollywood for Liefeld, but it doesn't excuse his being a terrible artist any more than Ed Wood being a terrible filmmaker. If Marvel/DC were serious, they'd never have wasted money employing Liefeld in the past 3-4 decades.
