The Simpsons is derailing
Oh wait, didn't that happen several years ago? But now, it goes needlessly into overly politicized territory, first with a comment on the Iraq war by octo-aliens Kang and Kodos, and now by insulting the troops with an episode that uses Springfield's brainless (and who else would that be but Homer Simpson, to name but one?) to symbolize what the producers consider "the lazy and uneducated". As Michelle Malkin says, they pulled a John Kerry on the audience.
If that's how it's going to be, how can I possibly look forward to an episode in which Alan Moore plays himself? Casting celebs and comic book writers as themselves in a cartoon show like this is clever, but it's becoming overshadowed by the encroaching unfunniness of recent seasons and episodes. The series has run an alarmingly long amount of time, almost as long as Gunsmoke, and the time has decidedly come for it to end.
A few years ago, it was said that when it does end, there'll come a movie version of it, but frankly, I doubt there'll be much humor left if and by the time it's done. So much for the innovation that the Simpsons had when it first began.
