Older issues of BND were tacked onto latest sales results
On The Beat blog's latest sales analysis of Marvel's monthly sales, they tell something interesting about what's being done with unsold copies of Spider-Man's Brand New Day:
We’ve noted in previous months that Marvel seem to be dumping old remaindered comics onto the direct market, and Diamond appear to be counting these as extra “sales” on the chart. That’s presumably the explanation for the wholly incongruous appearance on the charts of issue #544, shipping another 8,316 copies.I think now I'm beginning to figure out why on the first week of the month, there are these momentary "boosts" in sales, which drop away soon afterwards. It means that while ASM #555 may have 86,902 copies listed, it could've actually sold at least 5,000 less. And why would the retailers order higher numbers if what they already have isn't making money? And this tactic Marvel's using may have been going on for several months now, which suggests that even before One More/Brand New Day, they were selling less than what the sales results suggested.
