Archie Comics introducing gay character soon
I guess they've decided they no longer want to be children's/teen's comics anymore. Then again, now that I recall, Archie did wish to marry Veronica last year. And there we have it, Archie Comics adds themselves to the list of those who're going for snooze-inducing political correctness.
April 2011 update: can you believe this? They're going beyond the pale and launching a series starring their new gay character, as though anyone really cares or would buy it. Absolutely shameless.

Despite the bilious unreasoning hate that Archie has directed at it by the kewl fanz of Marvel and DC, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this, purely because, incredible as it is to some, Archie is soooo conservative that when they finally shift ground it's usually still safe as houses, and homosexuality as an "issue" is boring as hell anyway. :)
Having said that, you could easily be right, and this could indeed be the spiritual death of the world's oldest teenager, leaving the field open for other world's oldest teens such as Dick "does anyone actually think he's staying as Batman" Grayson and Peter "did a deal with shaitan" Parker. :)

Looked for the April 1 dateline in vain.

At ease, everyone. The only thing that distinguishes the gay guy from all the other wholesome teens is that he's not attracted to Veronica. I don't think you have to be gay to be repulsed by the spoiled, self-involved Veronica, but then, I always had a sneaking fascination for Reggie. ;-)

I always figured something was up with Jughead that he wasn't telling anyone else about.

I normally like what you have to say, but I think your reasoning is way off here. Homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality are basically all just filters through which people function in life.
There can be wholesome gay romance just as there can be depraved straight sexuality.
I think the best example I can give here is that gays and gay friendly people write books like "Heather has Two Mommies" and "And Tango Makes Three", meanwhile the first time I heard a graphic description of homosexual water sports, I heard it from Pat Robertson on an episode of the 700 club.

Aw, screw it. Had a long thing written up on anatomy, nature, psychological disorders and the like, but why bother? Sentimentality rules the day, brute fact is out.
