How the House of M broke the X-Men
The Hurting blog tells why the House of M crossover only spoiled the X-Men, and never really helped it out. I can think of one more reason why: because they had to do it all as an "event" that would do away with too many mutants in a contrived, mediocre manner, and not as a self-contained story. And because they couldn't have just tried to let a lot of these overabundant mutants be forgotten and downplayed, which could've been more effective.

I can't agree more with the reasoning of the blog entry. Ya just have to wonder what the heck is being thought about at Marvel...

That's really an excellent analysis. I'd never considered before that the problem is that they went from equal rights to racial separatism and superiority, but now that I think about it, it's dead on the money. Kind of like the real world civil rights movement.

Probably the best way to fix the X-Men and much of the rest of the Marvel universe is to reboot several years worth of storytelling published under the Quesada regime. It's the best possible idea I can think of for how to repair the damage Quesada and company have caused.
