A variant cover for Mighty Avengers featuring Eminem sells for hundreds

The speculator mentality (and exploitation by some retailers) continues. Hip Hop Wired says that a variant cover with a noted rap musician in the illustration is being sold for more than just its 4 dollar cover price:
If you're looking to score a copy of the Mighty Avengers comic that features Iron Man and Eminem on the cover, make sure your money is right. The very limited edition title is already selling for hundreds of dollars at comic shops. [...]

Hip-Hop Wired went over to JHU Comic Books on 32nd St. in Manhattan and inquired about the comic. An employee pointed it on on the wall and said it was sale for $100. Apparently comic book shops received a grand total of one Mighty Avengers #3 variant cover issue per store. But it seems like JHU is selling the title at a nice discount, relatively. We called up Midtown Comics and a worker at their Times Square location told us they had the comic on sale for a hefty $400.
A cover for a comic that's only bound to lose value along with countless others that weren't worth what Overstreet claimed they were. This is a disgrace how Marvel, along with retailers, are taking advantage of people by marketing the issue on the cover alone. One that's bound to turn up on comic databases in a few months and then everybody can save a picture of the cover to hard disk for free. I'm disappointed with the store managers for going along with something so exploitive.

Labels: , , ,

Gimmicky covers, pointless crossovers, Wolverine's in EVERYTHING, bad writing, ridiculous costumes and character revamps...the 90's are back...*SIGH*

Gimmick, gimmick, gimmick. If only they could tell decent stories. They used to be known for those.

In better days, it would have been the Avengers smacking around Eminem.
