Newest Spider-Woman series begins as part of a crossover
There's no origin story recap or establishing a new status quo in this new ongoing series debuts. Jessica Drew jumps right into Spider-Verse and has to protect Silk from the Inheritors in this Newsarama-exclusive preview of next week's Spider-Woman #1.Obviously, this was not meant to appeal to any women looking for a great book with a superheroine in a mainstream universe (and Marvel hasn't offered anything like that in a long time). Nor was it meant to offer anyone new to Marvel's stable of characters a chance to understand her origins, and given that Drew is a 3rd tier, it could come in useful to tell her origin, though I'm sure under Axel Alonso, it would be retconned into a perfect disaster. No, it was apparently launched just to be part of the ridiculous crossover they're publishing now, and that's not how you draw in newcomers. But even for old-timers familiar with the origin published in the late 1970s, it's nothing to look forward to if it's part of a money-consuming crossover.
