Image will not be doing any good standing by this embarrassment of a writer

We have yet another case of a comics writer/artist who's going overboard wishing ill upon somebody he disagrees with. Case in point is Michelle Perez, who reportedly is a male transvestite leftist, and who made horrific comments about the video commentator Richard Meyer, starting with this revoltingly awful item here:
Sometimes, it's just hard to believe people this vile have access to a computer. There's more at Bounding Into Comics, including the following vulgarities seen in the tweet below:

When did we get to the point where it was fully acceptable to say you're glad somebody's dead? Perez's drivel even drew the dismayed attention of Vanity Fair writer Kurt Eichenwald, even though, from what I know, he may have some big chips on his shoulder, and Perez and his ilk turned on him as well. A few days ago, when I tried to look at Perez's Twitter page, I noticed it was restricted, quite likely because whatever he's got to say is so explicit, it got flagged by the staff. The page appears to be more immediately accessible now, but most of the tweets with the offending cracks still remain.

To make matters worse, when Erik Larsen was confronted about this, he wouldn't condemn Perez for being so abominable:

At this point, it's clear the guy does not have a clear definition of the boundaries between good and bad taste, and how the latter can prove long term bad news for their reputation. This is another example of Larsen undermining his anti-censorship stance, because there's a difference between clothes and verbal comments. They caved to censorship demands on Howard Chaykin's "Divided States of Hysteria", the liberal leanings notwithstanding, and now they're caving to somebody who has no sense of manners. A real shame.

At least nobody concerned needs to buy the books Perez is working on, including some bizarre pastiche called "The Pervert". They don't even need to buy Larsen's own Savage Dragon if they think he's blowing it on this, and for all we know, unless Image staff shape up, this could be another domino in their own downfall.

"It's just words, man. Nobody was hurt. That's freedom of speech in action."

But if you criticize Islam, or if you wear a MAGA cap, or if you call a transvestite by the wrong pronoun, then leftists want to prosecute you for hate speech.

  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
