A British comics publisher doesn't want whites at conventions
For the love of god, MAKE YOUR COMICS FESTIVAL LESS WHITE. There is absolutely NO excuse. Why am I continuing to see this— Zainab Akhtar (@comicsandcola) April 25, 2018
I'm talking about exhibitors and the curation/acceptance process, of course, but also it is abysmal and astonishing to see cons announce wave after wave of white guests- these are your headliners and for better or worse, represent how your con is perceived.— Zainab Akhtar (@comicsandcola) April 25, 2018
I have lost count of the amount of cons who seem to define 'international' as 'white European'— Zainab Akhtar (@comicsandcola) April 25, 2018
I guess the list of whites who she believes need not attend includes Stan Lee, Marv Wolfman, Chris Claremont and Roy Thomas, among others, right? She's an utter disgrace, yet her comment does indicate what's gone wrong with the UK comics industry as much as the USA industry.
Make black cartoonists guests, make South Asian cartoonists guests. If you do not know where to find these artists(!), hire someone who does. This is literally your job in running a con.— Zainab Akhtar (@comicsandcola) April 25, 2018
*Ahem* There's plenty of black/Asian cartoonists attending all sorts of conventions. Even Latino/mixed, like George Perez. So quit trying to cast false pictures of the industry as a whole. If she's got this low an opinion of whites, she should just quit working in comics.
Labels: conventions, Europe and Asia, misogyny and racism, moonbat writers, politics
If they're a comic publisher, then publish books by "creators of color other than white" and bring them to represent their books. Problem solved.
