Here's an article at the Simon Fraser University about a Vancouver art teacher writing a thesis in comics form, which they describe as a first for Canada.

Fuck academia.
This is the same sort of initiative that created sjws. Once academia took interest in comics, comics had to assume some kind of "social responsibility" in order to remain in their favor.
The idea of comics as art therapy, has been pretty much the entire Indie/ undercomics scene has been done to death. That is what this thesis is more than scholarly work. Then again, scholarly work is whatever someone can come up with that is deemed acceptable by academia.
Yeah, now that I think of it, you're right. Universities are just not the right place for comicdom, and certainly not if they're left-wing institutions.
“When state sponsored, elite, taught-in-school, serious art becomes absolutely useless at providing people what they need from art, something bubbles up from despised popular forms…. Undergrounds comics, natch, but consider how much better Raymond Chandler and Phillip K Dick were than the serious ‘literary’ writers of their generations. What no one would dare say in ‘literature’ can be said in science fiction or porn.”
