Will Marvel kill off Carol Danvers and replace her again?

Cosmic Book News has discovered Marvel may be going the revolting cliche route with the true Ms. Marvel, now that it's become abundantly clear the solo books they've churned out starring her as Captain Marvel are not proving worth their weight in gold:
With sales in the gutter, what usually happens in order to ramp up sales for a failing title? Yep. Kill off the character.

With the release of Marvel Comics' September 2019 solicitations, they tease the death of Captain Marvel Carol Danvers and look to replace the character.

The solicit for issue #10 says: "New hero STAR is in and CAPTAIN MARVEL is out!" The solicit also states, "Will Carol be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice?"
If she does, it's because the real life writers and editors force her to. It wouldn't even be the first time she's been through this. If memory serves, they already did something like this in 2009, when Moonstone/Karla Sofen replaced her briefly. On which note, they may not get rid of Carol Danvers altogether this time either, but it's clear all their efforts to prove she's a popular character without merit-based writing have not been successful, so now they're going the cheap route and kicking her to the curb yet again, and surely without restoring her to her original role as Ms. Marvel, all because a Muslim protagonist must be kept prominent, even though sales have been dismal for the Kamala Khan title too.
I'm actually surprised the series is making it to ten issues as the latest sales show that Captain Marvel continues to nosedive.

According to Comichron, the May sales for Captain Marvel #5 are at only about 26K, down 5% from April's numbers, and down a whopping 76.6% from January's #1, which was the title's 11th relaunch or so. It's a wonder why Marvel Comics continues to put out a title that doesn't sell featuring the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel that nobody wants to read.
Of course, even if they did restore her to Ms. Marvel, bad writing, company wide crossovers and Quesada's shadow would continue to prove crippling. Why, if Monica Rambeau were restored to the Captain Marvel role, she too would be bound to suffer the same. That's the sad reality that's prevailed for many years now.

Speaking of Monica though, when it comes to the Marvel movieverse, there was recently a petition to replace Carol with Monica - or Brie Larson with a black actress - in any Captain Marvel movie to follow. There's just one little absurdity involved, as you'll see here:
The first female Captain Marvel was a black woman and an online petition calling for Brie Larson to be replaced is gaining steam.

The petition’s goal is 9,000 signatures and already (as of this writing) over 8,000 supporters have signed on.

“We need Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of color plays the role,” the petition reads [emphasis original]. “Let Monica, the original female & BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney.

To back up their argument that Larson is “all talk,” the petitioners also criticize the Oscar-winner for her charitable giving … or lack of…

“She hasn’t donated money to any charity other than The Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation and it’s time for her to show she is not all-talk.”

The “Monica” referred to in the petition is the character Monica Rambeau, created by Marvel comics all the way back in 1982. Rambeau is a black woman (based on The Mighty Pam Grier) but there is no reference to her being homosexual.

Monica Rambeau does appear in the movie Captain Marvel, but as the daughter of Carol Danvers’ (Larson) best friend.
If it were a black actress playing Monica taking up the role, that could be quite an improvement. But why do these buffoons believe the star cast should be a lesbian? Make such a fuss about that, and all you're doing is dampening the seriousness of the call, and putting political agendas before the merit. Nothing new by now, of course, but still, it's time for that kind of idiocy to be put to rest.

I think the biggest joke in this whole debacle was that they never began Captain Marvel with the original male alien protagonist, Mar-Vell of the Kree, which could surely have produced a worthy metaphor for dissidents from communist countries, as the premise went in 1967. Then, afterwards, they would've paved the way for a Ms. Marvel movie with Carol Danvers, who could've gotten her powers almost the same way she'd got them in the comics, and then, they could doubtlessly have conceived a way for Monica Rambeau to ascend the Captain role afterwards. But the problem with today's PC screenwriters is that they just can't wait, and are too full of leftism to consider what was a well-regarded premise back in the late 60s.

And as John Nolte says at the end of his article:
Left-wing Hollywood remains one of the most racist institutions in this country. Casting a black woman as Captain Marvel was a no-brainer decision for Disney-Marvel, was the right decision, and they should all be ashamed of themselves — as should shameless hypocrite Brie Larson.
Indeed. Now, it could be too late, and too expensive, to rework everything for the better. And it's pretty apparent moviegoers aren't reading the Captain Marvel comics either.

The Mar-Vell Captain Marvel was the third hero to have that name, rushed into publication to secure the copyright; it was never a big seller, often cancelled, although Jim Starlin's stories in particular were one of the high points of Marvel's 1970s publications and it was a fan favorite.

The first issue of Carol Danvers captain marvel title was the top-selling Marvel comic in the month it was released, ahead of popular titles like Spider-Man and Thor; it is still selling respectably compared to other Marvel titles, in the mid-range, in months crowded with cross-over spin-offs.

The odds that she is going to be killed off and replaced are about as likely as the odds that Captain America was going to stay Nazi when the Secret Empire storyline ended, or that Superman was going to stay dead after Doomsday killed him. Don't forget, there is a movie sequel, probably guest-starring a grown-up Monica Rambeau and a teen-age Kamala, on the agenda.

It's not like she wasn't taken off the board before, from the beginning of that "pregnancy" around Avengers 190 or so, to the end of Operation Galactic Storm she was pretty much everything but Ms. Marvel and her powerset.

Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel is not a decent seller or the mid ranges of comic sales! Great titles sell in the top 20 she's regularly below the top 50 & had been cancelled & relaunched so many times it's not even funny! Her movie may have made a lot of money & it's easier to support her movie which will come out every 2-3 years for sequels as opposed to maintaining decent sales for a monthly following!
