Dan Slott is leaving Iron Man

One of the worst writers to sully Marvel over the past 2-3 decades will be departing from another title besides Spider-Man that he should never have been assigned to write, as Newsarama's informed:
Writer Dan Slott has announced that the end of the current Iron Man 2020 event series will also be the end of Slott's run with the character completely. That event series was postponed after issue #3 due to the coronavirus pandemic's effects on the Direct Market's primary distributor, Diamond.
It'll be even better news if Marvel's willing to part ways with Slott altogether. If he's still writing Fantastic Four, how much longer will he remain there? After all the trouble he caused in terrible writing on Spider-Man, for example, continuing the damage Joe Quesada put the comic through, not the least being the ill-treatment of Mary Jane Watson, keeping Slott employed at any company would be a dreadful mistake. That he had Benjamin Grimm and Alicia Master marry in FF #650 doesn't excuse the revolting misuse of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson over in Spider-Man, period, nor does it excuse the harm done to Iron Man's world, which Slott's been retaining since he took up writing IM. As CBR reminds us:
Over the course of Slott's run, artificial intelligence was introduced to Earth, with sentient machines forming their own community around the world. After Tony's apparent death, Arno had replaced him to regulate the rise of artificial intelligence, with Tony's return teased since the launch of Iron Man 2020 this past January, setting up a showdown between the two siblings.
What are the odds it won't conclude with the unpopular retcon turning Tony into an adopted orphan being jettisoned? Probably very high. In fact, what are the odds the recent shock value storyline where it's told Tony is the son of Mephisto won't be discarded either? Probably the same. As time goes on, it seems all they can think of is to concoct worse and worse ideas how to portray their cast of characters, to the point where it hasn't been "realistic" for a long time, no matter what propaganda they lecture us with. Slott's departure from IM is welcome, but if Marvel continues his employment, it's clear all the awful elements he's ever brought to the table will continue to be present. Corporate nepotism has proven the undoing of entertainment.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
