The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

At least a dozen cartoons are pushing LGBT agendas on children

Breitbart presents a list of a dozen cartoons (and one live action show) with LGBT themes from the past number of years aimed at children. It begins:
Hollywood has pushed a concerted, industry-wide effort for years to place LGBTQ-related entertainment into programs aimed at young audiences, often times in cooperation with gay rights group GLAAD.

GLAAD has spent years lobbying Hollywood studios to increase the representation of LGBTQ characters in various programing. The major TV networks, including Nickelodeon, PBS, Cartoon Network, and others, have joined that effort. Now nearly every TV series, animated or live-action, has added gay characters.
They continue to list 13 productions, and the main one we could highlight here is a new take on Scooby Doo's Velma:
Last July, the makers of Scooby-Doo made a show of confirming that the character Velma is a lesbian. Activists have repeatedly assumed that the sensible-shoe-wearing character is either gay or bi-sexual. But co-creator Tony Cervone wrote: “Velma in Mystery Incorporated is not bi. She’s gay. We always planned on Velma acting a little off and out of character while she was dating Shaggy because that relationship was wrong for her, and she had unspoken difficulty with the why.”
Hmm, so he's saying a heterosexual relationship was wrong for her? Maybe worse, he's implying she should be depicted as an "opposite sex rejecter", which we could call OSR for short. I dread the day when ideologues like him will get their mitts on Peanuts, and start depicting Marcie as a literal lesbian, giving new meaning to Peppermint Patty's "you're weird, Marcie" comment.

Another example cited is a Duck Tales reboot, proving Disney's new age domineers are throwing the founder under the bus:
Last April, Disney revealed a gay character in DuckTales named Violet, who is presented as a child with two gay dads. The two dads wear shirts saying, “I’m With Dad” with arrows pointing left and right.
I'm sure they couldn't give a damn what uncle Walt would think of how his successors have desecrated the ducks he created in his time. Ugh, do gag me with a spoon! This is awful as can be, and not something children should be told is entirely normal. But it does confirm how a medium once limited to children in the USA, whose producers largely had no interest in developing cartoons for adults, is now being used to push this propaganda, because partisan politics have decided adult/mature themes in animation are acceptable, yet not something to be aimed at adults at all, just children. In Japan, whenever they produce cartoons with homosexual themes, they usually market them for older audiences, but in the USA, the bizarrely narrow view on cartoons remains, even as they're suddenly willing to do stuff with content not considered suited for children, because indoctrination now validates use of the themes for what's aimed at children, yet not at adults. Such peculiar thinking indeed.

And above all, this confirms the Saturday morning slate is no longer suitable for placing the children in front of the TV set to view. Time to look instead for the best of book material they can look over. Any more viewership of these ideologically motivated shows, and next thing you know, they'll be exploited for indoctrinating children with Critical Race Theory. Don't be shocked if that's next in Hollywood's political plans.

Yeah, I heard about Velma. Seriously, there is such a thing as socially awkward straight people. And quite frankly, I'm irritated that they made her an OSR at all, since she wasn't that in past renditions. Probably the only thing worse is that James Gunn apparently toyed with the idea of making Velma into a lesbian in the live action Scooby movies. Thank goodness he never went through with that bit. Was already bad enough they had the gang break up over a mere ghost attack in that movie (despite going through MUCH worse situations than that and not even coming close to fracturing). We don't need her to become a lesbian at all, much less a man-hating one.

Don't know if you're too happy with the likes of, say, General Blue from Dragon Ball being depicted as an OSR either (even if he at least was wholly original), since you implied you're not fond of OSR depictions when you said it's even worse that he implied Velma should be depicted as that.

Me personally, regarding OSRs, I'll tolerate lesbians and gays being depicted as that if they at least were done with wholly original characters (like Blue for example), and at debut rather than rabbit out of hat tricks like they did with Heroes via Claire Bennet or most of the cast in Arrowverse shows, and the like. That said, however, I think it should be done in a way that comes across as them actually hating the opposite sex in and of itself and not done in a way that made it seem more like they didn't like how they flirted with them (one flaw with how they unveiled Blue's sexuality was that even most straight people in reality would be put off by how Bulma flirted with Blue, which was actually crass, so it really doesn't jive too well. Even less so in the manga where he implies that he found men who looked like women even more disgusting than women themselves when Bulma tried to pass herself off as male.).
