Iowa's favorite superhero
Comic books flew off the shelves when the world shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, driving a spike in sales for both Marvel and DC comics that has continued into 2022, according to data released this week from Wise Voter, a national survey platform.I gotta admit, that's amazing, and shows nobody has any qualms about Arthur Curry talking to fish. Which reminds me that the Golden Age Hawkman tales depicted Carter Hall communicating with wild birds he was training as assistant backup fighters in a valley around 1942, and nobody makes jokes about the Winged Warrior talking with birds any more than they do the Sub-Mariner doing anything similar to Aquaman over in the Marvel universe.
The site, which analyzed favorite comic book superheroes by state, reported the comic book market grew by more than 60% in both print and digital sales nationwide from 2020 to 2021. Marvel recorded a 32% market share, while DC recorded 27%.
When it comes down to America's favorite superhero, the answer is clear: Spider-Man. Spidey comic books were the top sellers in 25 states, including some of Iowa's neighbors, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri and Illinois, according to Wise Voter.
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is followed by Gotham City's Batman, who dominated sales in 10 states, and Superman who came out on top in four states.
Overall, the DC vs Marvel battle was won by Marvel fans, who took over 32 states, Wise Voter reported.
So who is Iowa's favorite hero? Aquaman, monarch of Atlantis and King of the Seven Seas, took the top spot in the Hawkeye state where he has a real-life conne[ction].
But without clear sales receipts, I think this article is failing to realize that the Big Two are falling in sales, despite any suggestions to the contrary, due to their continued social justice agenda, and that's the downside. Sure, it's great if Aquaman receives recognition. But anybody who won't admit ultra-leftist politics being stuffed into modern comics is ruining everything isn't doing any favors for DC's seabound superhero any more than the rest of the classic creations in focus.

If they were making jokes about Hawkman talking to birds in 1942, how would we know? It is not like anyone posted them to the internet back then.
Sub-Mariner never talked to fish, sadly.
