Hawkwoman's life turned into a New 52 sacrifice

The Thanagarian version of Hawkwoman - if she could even be called that anymore, since now it looks like she's just plain Shayera Thal - was subjected to the cliche of bringing certain characters back only to kill them again:
It's also important to note that Katar Hol had a lover on Thanagar named Shayera Thal. But she was Emperor Corsar's sister, and when Katar became a wanted man, Shayera was among those who hunted him.

However, in this week's issue of The Savage Hawkman, it appears that Shayera realized Hawkman was innocent, and she sacrificed herself trying to protect him from the Thanagarians.
Well there we go again; another onetime heroine who's become a sacrificial lamb. And she may not even have been Hawkwoman anymore, since Hawkman was the only real star of the now canceled solo book. All this shows is that neither DC nor Geoff Johns ever really set out to make Hawkman a book to appreciate.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
