The desecration of Captain America continues

No matter what plans Marvel has for Steve Rogers in the end, they're still finding ways to troll the audience in the 5th issue of the new series where Steve's turned into a Hydra tool:
Steve Rogers is continuing his descent into villainy following the reveal that he's secretly been a Hydra agent his whole life. Since that initial twist, we've seen Steve apparently murder Baron Zemo and the Red Ghost and plot to overthrow his new master, the Red Skull. What is a Star-Spangled Avenger to do for an encore? What about killing the Hulk?

Today's new issue tied more directly into the events of Civil War II. Fearful that the Inhuman Ulysses might use his powers to predict Hydra's actions, Cap initially tried to murder Ulysses in his sleep. But he quickly decided that it would be easier to simply ensure that Earth's Mightiest heroes are too busy fighting each other to notice Hydra. This issue shows Cap repeatedly stoking the fires of war, including mailing a letter to Bruce Banner that reignited his interest in gamma radiation and led to Banner's death in Civil War II #3. That's right, Cap is indirectly responsible for the death of the Hulk.
It's weird how they ignore that the villification of Steve was allegedly the result of brainwashing. Not that it makes the story any better, obviously, and what they're doing here only makes it worse. As if the terrible characterization of Tony Stark wasn't bad enough. Brainwashing or not, this is some of the grimiest plotting I've ever heard of. Just a pathetic excuse to depict Cap committing acts of violence whose only purpose is to alienate fans, desecrate a famous creation and insult the memory of his creators, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon. That's all the incumbent staff at Marvel are interested in today, and that's why nobody should waste their money on their output.

Maybe the worst, most mind-boggling part of this mess is that we're presumably supposed to feel sorry for the villains Cap may or may not have killed in this story. That's one of the most revolting problems with the superhero publishers today - they put villains in ostensibly sympathetic positions while the goodies are almost indistinguishable from their adversaries.

Looking forward on what you've got to say about Rucka saying Wonder Woman is "queer" and leftist websites salivating over it.
