The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

The Verge didn't disclose relations between Zoe Quinn and their interviewer

It looks like ethics in comics journalism aren't what they could be, any more than in gaming journalism:
Recently, The Verge’s Laura Hudson conducted and published an interview with Quinn. The published piece is a fairly standard promotional interview in which Quinn speaks at length on Goddess Mode in order to promote her book in the wake of the comic’s official release. Yet many readers were quick to point out that, while the piece itself was innocuous, there was a glowing omission: Hudson did not disclose her personal relationship with Quinn.

According to tweets between Quinn and Hudson in response to Hudson’s article, it appears that the two have a personal relationship outside of professional connections and networking
And none of this was clarified by the trade journal? Tsk tsk. I do notice, however, that if comment options were open on the interview page when it first went up, they're gone now. Guess they were so embarrassed by their goof, they went all frantic omitting everything without just owning up and arguing it was an honest mistake.

Still, that's probably about what to expect when you're dealing with people who used to work at the now defunct Comics Alliance website, and people whose manners aren't very good.

Have to admit, as scandals go it would be hard to find one more innocuous. There does not seem to be any conflict of interest here.
