For Wizard, a Phoenix from Heroclix is like, really big news (yeah, right)
The utterly sensationalistic Wizard magazine fawns over a Phoenix figure from Heroclix:
Also: In another article this all-time worst in the business magazine published, one of the editors blabbers on about how the buzz for DC's books of the moments is paying off, to the point of getting people interested in the older stuff.
And yet, do people actually seem to be taking massive interest in any of DC's current ongoing books? I look at the ICV2 charts and it's not as if they've all suddenly skyrocketed to the top ten slots; in fact, they're far from being there, if at all.
So as is to be expected by now from Wizard, they just simply over-exaggerate the facts.

I've been fed up as can possibly be by all this Phoenix propaganda that's been shoved mercilessly upon the public all these years. I don't need any more of it, and certainly not with the kind of deadly elements that Wizard writes about in fluff-coated terms, as if this were a flat-out wonderful thing. Gag me with a spoon!

All the buzz around these books is definitely kicking up interest in older DC books. Ragman, Detective Chimp, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Catman, etc. They're all getting tons of attention and prices are starting to kick up.Which is exaggerated, of course. How about the Atom, for example? And what about Elongated Man? And considering that Blue Beetle's dead, how can any interest in him for today be brought about, if he cannot continue as an ongoing character for the moment? ("Detective Chimp"!? oh yeah, that's the best one I've heard all day.) To say the least, I can't say I've seen a lot of the readers who've been taking to this kind of stuff wanting to know more about any of the older characters like Ray Palmer, Ralph Dibny, and even Ted Kord. It's almost like what Fanboy Rampage once said, that in the end, Identity Crisis, as an actual book, didn't matter in the end, rather, it was only the hype and the fact that everyone bought it that did.
