Newsarama was acquired by Imaginova

According to this announcement, Newsarama has been bought and is now under the ownership of Imaginova Network, the owner of websites like Space.Com and Live Science.

But does that mean that the new owner will take any steps to make them a better, more meat-and-potatoes site than the often knee-jerk, tabloid-like site they've been in the past several years that's sugarcoated and acted as an apologist for the major companies no matter what kind of awful pretensions Marvel and DC have put out? If the following part of the announcement is any indication, little may change, if at all:
Newsarama will serve as Imaginova’s eyes and ears in the world of genre entertainment. We will continue to provide and improve upon our market-leading coverage of the comic book industry. Everything you've come to know and expect from Newsarama is going to get better.

And that’s really the story of this day …what you have come to expect from Newsarama –won’t be changing. We will continue to guide and grow the site editorially as we have since Day 1 and the writers you have come to know and trust will come along with us for this exciting ride.
So does this imply that Doran and Brady are still going to be in charge, and that they may not change anything (namely, their tabloid approach to press coverage)? In that case, this really isn't news at all.

If Imaginova Network really wants to offer a site that's got truly informative coverage, they'd look over the flaws inside Newsarama and demand some serious change, and perhaps even replace a few of the more pretentious contributors. If they don't, they're only furthering a joke!

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
