The
2nd movie based on the GI Joe franchise, Retaliation, is set to debut in the next 2 months. It may be better than
the first one, which, while it wasn't set in Geneva, slapped fans in the face by setting the Pit base in Egypt (!), which certainly wouldn't benefit the movie's chances now a year after the
so-called "Arab spring". And director Sommers' comments telling that it was more of an Obama movie didn't help either.
However, as
Big Hollywood pointed out a few months ago, the material available so far avoids identifying GI Joe as American, and that could still work to the movie's disadvantage. If the studio's smart, they'll at least allow official press screenings this time.
Labels: licensed products, politics
It won't be good if they continue the anti-American streak from the first film, and if GI Joe still stands for "Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity." I'm really not impressed with the trailers for the film, and the last one really left a foul taste in my mouth, so I won't bother to see it at all.
