The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

Jimmy Palmiotti backs gun control and changing the Constitution

Boy, of all the artists and writers who could double-talk about guns even as they write and draw them, this one tops them all. While arguing with another tweeter about how gun control has failed, Palmiotti said:

That's mighty rich coming from an artist/writer who began his career as an inker on the Punisher and The 'Nam in the early 1990s, went on to co-create comics like Ash and Painkiller Jane, and has been writing Jonah Hex since 2005, all featuring stars who wield guns (or, as in Ash's case, flames). How does he justify his own stance with the portfolio he's got that's full of the sound of blams? Does this mean he regrets working on those now?

It gets worse:

Oh god. What a groaner. Rewriting the Constitution's 2nd amendment would only result in innocents being unable to defend themselves. And then, Palmiotti says:

If they can get the arms through the black market, as his opponent points out, then Palmiotti's just running on fumes now, unable to think of anything better to say. And if he keeps on writing books about heroes who use weapons, then his positions have no weight at all.

At least Palmiotti doesn't mince words. He's up front w/his radical opinions, so I respect that even though I disagree. Contrast that to Slott who says "No one wants to take away anyone's guns" but then complains about too many guns and how something must be done, etc.

    Say you have two people.

#1 says, "The Constitution says X; I believe X is wrong, therefore I want to change the Constitution."

#2 says, "We've just discovered that X is not allowed in the Constitution because of a penumbra of an emanation hidden under a rock in Lower Elbonia."

I find it much easier to respect #1 as a person, even if their views are nuttier than squirrel poo. At least there's some shreds of intellectual integrity.
