NY Daily News admits X-Men #1 isn't the best title for a series starring women
Marvel Comics will hand over the reins of its flagship team comic-book series to an all-female cast of superheroines with the Wednesday release of the not-so-fittingly named “X-Men #1.”That's one thing they're right about. They're wrong, however, about the status of the following supercrook:
The story begins with superheroine Jubilee returning to the “X-Men” fold with a mysterious infant in tow — followed by longtime Marvel villain John Sublime.Huh? That villain hasn't been around so long at all. He first appeared in 2001 in Grant Morrison's work on the X-books. And successive writers haven't managed to make him more interesting than Morrison ever did either.
There's no mention of whether the book will get caught up in crossovers, as I wondered earlier has every chance of happening later down the line. For now, it remains to be seen if the editors will allow the writers in charge to form their own stand-alone direction. Even if they do, it could be for one story arc only, and then the next thing we know, crossover-mania comes swooping in and taking over.
