Gerry Conway compares Orson Scott Card to communists

In his own swipe at Card, Conway, following up on an interview with a nasty playwright named Harvey Fierstein, said:

As sad as it is that he's keeping on with that awful boilerplate leftism, it's interesting that Conway (and Fierstein) is willing to compare Card to a commie, because today's leftists can't exactly be expected to condemn commies like the ones still dominating Russia. The political atmosphere today is a lot different from what it used to be, when some leftists up to the end of the 80s did acknowledge the badness of commies.

That said, since when did Card ever call for busting gays and lesbians the way Putin's been doing? Leftists must really love putting words in other people's mouths. That said, I hope they feel the same way about Islamic and Iranian tyrants like Ahmedinejad as they do about Putin.

Here's another saddening tweet by Conway on Obamacare:

How so? This news (via Conservative Hideout) isn't very encouraging, and neither is this. Too bad Conway's relying upon a paper run by a whole busload of J. Jonah Jamesons.

I guess Conway is hoping someone at the Big Two will notice his far-left views and give him work so he'll be relevant again.

Conway comparing Card to a communist (or "Russian fascist") is fitting, because I would compare Conway and most leftists to HUAC or Senator McCarthy in the 1950's. Back then, demagogues could cloud issues and squelch dissent by calling their opponents "commies" and "Reds." Today, accusations of homophobia (and racism and sexism) serve the same purpose.

I'm guessing what he's referring to is the White Russian or nationalist/ monarchist movement after the war, which was/ is very anti-communist, but not in favor of western libertarianism either. Unless he just has no idea what he's talking about, which is likely. It's kind of hard to explain to Americans as we don't have anything that corresponds to it here, where everything gets divided down into populist libertarian vs secular statist.

They used to toss people in jail for sodomy or promotion thereof here, so it's not really a radical, strange idea.

I don't know anyone who has benefited from Obamacare. I know several people who say that their co-pays or deductibles have gone up.

Using Krugman as "evidence" kinda destroys any rational argument he was attempting to make.

And Anonymous 1 was spot-on: It's today's Left which is analogous to HUAC and McCarthy, not the Right. It's not even close.
