While writing about the Sandman prequel Neil Gaiman's doing for his thriller series from 1989-96, the AP Wire gets some details wrong:
That aside, how strange this project - which relates to the older continuity post-Crisis on Infinite Earths - is being published now, probably as an attempt to draw back people repelled by Dan DiDio, but at this point, I'm not sure many will care.
It was Sandman's ensnarement that saw Gaiman launch his telling of the DC Entertainment character for Vertigo Comics in 1988, a move that pushed him, the character and the publisher into a new level of storytelling and sales, with collected editions quickly becoming best-sellers.Earth to AP: "DC Entertainment" didn't exist at the time; it was only DC Comics. Nor did the Vertigo imprint, which was only launched 4 years after The Sandman debuted. What a goof.
