Claremont gave an interview to the Suicide Girls website about the graphic novel he wrote in the 80s called Marada, The She-Wolf, originally planned as a Red Sonja story, but was changed into its own stand-alone tale after Marvel lost the license to Robert E. Howard's material (along with Conan, I assume). It's been published again recently by Titan books.

I believe Marvel lost the license to Robert E Howard characters in the 1980s sometime, apart from Kulan Gath and Set the Serpent God. Last I heard, Dark Horse owned the license to the Howard characters.
