The Four Color Media Monitor: The Movement series is cancelled

Gail Simone's ill-advised series "inspired" by Occupy Wall Street has been terminated after barely a year, and:

The final issue will be #12, which will see the team looking to rescue one of their own from a cult.

Wonder if that cult will be right-wing?

Simone said on her blog (via Digital Spy):

Unfortunately, this book just never found a big enough audience. The people who loved it, loved it hard, but that number was too small.

I am bummed about it, we wanted to do a book that didn’t read or look like anything else out there, and I think we accomplished that. I take the responsibility, I think it took a little while for people to really adopt the characters, which was a conscious choice but also a risky one in this very cautious market where people have to be extra careful of which books they choose.

Obviously, even liberals couldn't get excited about it, and the Occupy movement collapsed long ago anyway; nobody cares about it, and came to terms with its not being worth supporting, mostly because of all the creepy characters overrunning the camps.. But she does let know that Dan DiDio was a big supporter of this book, further confirming his leftism.

Claiming it didn't look or read like anything else on the market is also laughable. It went by a leftist slant, just like many other mainstream printings, and the main cast was comprised of superhero-style characters. It's no substitute for character drama that doesn't adhere to poor left-wing politics.

One of those ideas everyone not in the NYC comics bubble knew was going to flop, but they wasted time and money on anyway.

Oh, well, maybe it finally teach DC not to do overtly political series, but I doubt it.

That, or maybe they thought Simone's fanbase would save the book? But otherwise, yeah, if you wanted a liberal hack book, go read any current Marvel title. Heh.

Our buddy Carl reported that one of the Movement issues sold a tad under 4000 copies?? I mean, I know a good title sells around 100K these days, but 4000??

Besides, Simone is an intolerant thug. Good riddance.

Now, if only she can stop writing Red Sonja and Batgirl, I'll be happy. I don't care if she writes other comic characters, just not them please.

I'd forgotten that she was writing Red Sonja as well. If she's writing it, i won't buy it. I used to like her Birds of Prey comic until I found out just what a left-wing loon she really was.

It was, unsurprisingly, a low-selling title and sold under 4000 copies, which is pretty bad by today's standards. The fact that it was also a political propaganda comic that lionized the Occupy movement and demonized the police didn't help matters, either. I saw bad reviews coming from even ultra-liberal comics review sites.

And yeah, she's your typical modern liberal. She only likes you when you agree with her views, but if you dare dissent from her, watch out.

Agreed, she's gotten really snotty in the past year, or so. At least, the mask finally came off. But I dread the fact we might see the Movement characters elsewhere in the DC Universe after the cancellation, not unlike how the Teen Trillionaires might be involved with the Teen Titans, if you read the final Green Team issue -- ZOMG!Spoiler!
