Even earlier, Geoff Johns pulled a similar trick 5 years ago when he brought Barry Allen back as the Flash, all for commercial reasons, as it's since turned out. Forcing meta-commentary into stories like these only diminishes whatever enjoyment the tale supposedly has, and in this era, it amounts to none.
