Dan Parent fluff-coats Archie's history

Parent, one of the leading writers for Archie, was interviewed by CBC and, you guessed it, wouldn't be honest about what they've done with the creations:
Archie Comics writer and illustrator Dan Parent said despite the differences and evolution in the comics in their nearly 80-year existence, Archie and his fellow characters have stayed largely true to form.
After they shoved leftist agendas like homosexuality and social justice allusions to the Occupy movement into the comics at the expense of entertainment value? I don't think so.
"The longevity of Archie is really a testament to their personalities," the American writer and artist said. "They're sort of a part of the fabric of America, as far as comic books go."
They won't maintain any if they're going to force agendas into their work as badly as Scott Lobdell did in the last year and a half of Alpha Flight, when he "outed" Northstar in one of the most heavy-handed writings he'd ever served up. AF's first volume got cancelled soon after.
While the original Archie comics, written in a different time, may face criticism for sexism, Parent said he believes that there's been an evolution in the characters and their interactions. For instance, Betty and Veronica no longer just serve as objects of infatuation for Archie, he said.

"They'll stand on their own more."
Interesting they accuse the early works of sexism, yet don't think their own recent handling of Veronica is the same. I'm sure the early works depicted Betty & Veronica as anything but "objects", but in any case, funny how they think it's wrong to objectify women, yet have none of the same issues regarding homosexual men like the Kevin Keller character. All that does is expose their hypocrisy, and how sexist they themselves are.
Parent said fans can expect more Archie in the media, with the continuation of the popular television series Riverdale, which began in 2017, new comic book styles and classic Archie material.
That gross-sounding TV scrap pile? Sorry, but it's just symbolic of the reasons why I watch far less TV today. Never mind they turned to horror-thriller material in their desperation to stay relevant, that sort of venture is also quite unappealing, and Parent fails to acknowledge their sales are as low as anything else on the pamphlet market today.

Northstar was outed as gay by his creator, John Byrne, in the early issues of Alpha Flight in the 1980s. For Byrne's take on it, see

And see for example issues 7 and 8 of the original series.
