There was at least one specialty store in Canada that closed down in the past 2 years due to Marvel's disastrous turn under Axel Alonso, and now, CTV News reported that Central Canada Comic-Con, a leading convention in Winnipeg, is on its way out too:

A pop culture convention that evolved to become a fixture at the RBC Convention Centre around Halloween time won’t be back again.

In spring, an organizer first announced that the C4 – Central Canada Comic Con was on hold for 2019, explaining the convention centre didn’t have the space needed for the event dates.

On Monday, the same organizer took to Facebook to say the organization behind the pop-culture convention would be shutting down for good.

The FB post written up notes that:

With over a hundred celebrities like William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Ron Perlman and Dave Prowse just to name a few. Comic book icons like George Perez, Neal Adams, Greg Horn, Ethan Van Sciver, and Tommy Castillo as well as so many more. [...]

But all things come to an end. River City Conventions after 25 years will be closing its doors permanently. There will be no future events planned for 2020 or the future.

I don't know - or can't think - of any USA-based conventions that closed of recent, but, this could be a sad sign of what's to come. Pop culture conventions getting hit hard by bad management and ill will coming from the major entertainment production outfits, comics among them, and this Canada-based event is currently the most notable that suffered a loss. If poor products and political correctness affected the convention, that too could've contributed to their downfall, though if the owners suffered financial losses, that too is clearly a contributing factor in the closure of C4.
