One new specialty store opens in Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Paper has word of one comics store that's opening in the NYC region, which on its own is certainly good news after the horrific disaster caused by deBlasio/Cuomo over the past year:
Cape-crusading collectors and Brooklyn comic book buffs can now mask up and swoop over to Greenpoint, where the borough’s newest outpost for graphic novels and superhero souvenirs opened on March 1, promising to house a unique blend of the industry’s latest-and-greatest while maintaining the charm that made comic shops a staple of yesteryear.

“You can buy a comic online, but there’s nothing like seeing it on the rack, have the cover appeal to you, picking through the pages, and loving it so much that you have to have it in your collection,” said Eric LaGaccia, the owner of Action City Comics on Manhattan Avenue. [...]

The store has attracted local fanboys, but also pent-up Brooklynites who rediscovered their passion for the fantastic tales amid the pandemic, LaGaccia said.

“A lot of people said they got back into the hobby during the pandemic,” he said. “You’re sitting at home all day and there’s only so much TV you can watch before you take your eyes off the screen.”
Well it's certainly better than watching TV, to be honest. Especially what with all the propaganda being shoved down everybody's throats on the small screen as much as the big one this past decade. Why, there's one particular TV show mentioned here that makes me glad I stick with the comics:
And the community has already come out in droves to the new store — fueled in part by the popular television adaptation of the Marvel Comics’ WandaVision, according to LaGaccia.
To me, it's a shame everyone seems to be buying into such a pretentious looking show, based as it seems to be upon one of Brian Bendis' most atrocious storylines, and unlike others, I'm not getting deceived. On the plus side, the owner noted:
The neighbors have given him and his comic book store warm welcome, with several locals saying they were excited about his new venture, especially the dedicated kids section.
I think that's a good sign, if the parents want to look for something hopefully suitable for their children. At the end, there's also an important reminder:
“Comic books are not just super heroes anymore, there’s comic books for all interests now,” he said.
That's right, and the wise store owner, IMO, does well to let everyone know it doesn't have to just be the corporate owned superhero fare you should try out, though I do wish somebody with sense and money would think to buy out the corporate owned creations and try to do a better job than is being done with them under corporate ownership. I would also think it a good idea to remember that when "all interests" as a citation can suggest stories with overly political bents, and while there may be some that work well enough on their own, it becomes a disaster when forced into corporate owned products at the expense of the entertainment value. Come to think of it, the same can be said for independent owned comics in general, if entertainment is supposed to be the name of the game.

I congratulate the store proprietor for success in opening a new specialty store in NYC at a time when much of business and economy has taken a horrible blow because of what the Coronavirus pandemic led to. I just wish most people buying weren't those influenced by something like WandaVision, because of its own negative influences.
