Brian Augustyn dies at 67
Writer/editor Brian Augustyn has died after suffering a stroke, according to a Facebook post from his longtime collaborator and friend, writer Mark Waid. Waid disclosed the news of Augustyn's death on his Facebook page, nothing that Augustyn's family requested for him to make the announcement.Augustyn certainly did oversee some of the better titles of the past 3 decades. In hindsight, I honestly wonder why somebody like him wasn't put in charge of Green Lantern, seeing what a disaster that became during the decade under Kevin Dooley. That said, it's honestly a shame Augustyn was a boilerplate leftist himself, and there were questionable or downright dismaying things he'd said in past years. It's all moot now, obviously, but I think it's regrettable too many of these industry contributors have to lean so far to the left. Definitely, Augustyn's work on the comic titles he'd edited is something to admire for the most part. But it's still a shame he was the kind of person who couldn't remain apolitical.
Augustyn made his name in comics as a senior editor for DC from 1987 through 1996, editing major titles including Justice League, Flash, and Wonder Woman, while also working closely with Waid as a fellow editor, and later writer.
