The Four Color Media Monitor

Because if we're going to try and stop the misuse of our favorite comics and their protagonists by the companies that write and publish them, we've got to see what both the printed and online comics news is doing wrong. This blog focuses on both the good and the bad, the newspaper media and the online websites. Unabashedly. Unapologetically. Scanning the media for what's being done right and what's being done wrong.

The carrot's still being dangled for the Spider-marriage, and bound to lead nowhere

But anybody who knows how mendacious Marvel's been for nearly 2 decade since Joe Quesada erased Spidey and Mary Jane Watson's marriage also knows it'd be ill-advised to assume they'll actually bring it back so easily. Here's what one of the worst writers at IGN says is being done now in anything Spider-Man related:
The Amazing Spider-Man #31 is another hugely important chapter in the series. Wedding bells are ringing, even while another romance falls apart. Old heroes return while new heroes are forged. And in the end, the series lays the groundwork for a major upcoming crossover called "Gang War."
Now why does this sound familiar? How many gang wars have their been in superhero comics, crossover-based or otherwise?
This issue also touches base with Mary Jane and Paul, who are both attending grief counseling in the wake of losing their two children. It's a particularly rough time for MJ, but with a little coaching from Felicia Hardy, she's convinced to venture back out into the world and put her newly acquired super-powers to good use. MJ has officially become the new Jackpot, and she's got a costume to go with the name:

Expect Mary Jane's new role as a superhero to play a big part in the future of the series, as well as an upcoming Jackpot limited series.
And this is another example of civilian casts transformed into superheroes themselves, no matter how contrived and forced they are. But how interesting the children previously highlighted are now history and written out of the picture. Yet, as I've said before, it's ill-advised to believe a reunion for Mary with Web-head will be around the corner.
What's next for Spidey and MJ's relationship now that Peter has broken up with Black Cat? Will they get back together, or has that ship sailed for good? [...]
If Cebulski, Quesada and company want them to remain apart, they will, till Marvel closes its doors altogether. Either way, with such people minding the store, you can't be shocked if bad storylines flooded with wokeism will continue apace, making any reunion between Peter and MJ insufferable, which was just the problem with J. Michael Straczynski's run in the 2000s.
