IDW regrettably still retains license for Ninja Turtles
IDW Publishing is staying in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles business. The comic book company has renewed its licensing deal with Paramount, which has held the rights to the classic characters since 2009.Seeing how far they brought the creations down in quality, as did a recent cartoon production, what's there to celebrate? Laird and Eastman should never have sold their property, and it's become a laughless joke already how many people seem eager to sell off their ownerships to conglomerates who don't respect the material. When will any creators wake up and smell the coffee, and realize selling off their creations for the sake of money is not the way to go?
Under the renewed deal, IDW plans on releasing multiple titles in honor of the property’s 40th anniversary. Among them is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution, a sequel to The Last Ronin, which took place in an alternate future and was based on a long-lost outline from the 1980s written by TMNT creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. The new installment arrives March 6.
And to plan multiple titles can always mean they'll make the same mistakes that were made with the X-Men franchise over at Marvel.
