An idea that should see light: a trade paperback of Marvel weddings
This is something I'd been thinking of for some time now, as a possible way to protest Joe Quesada's seemingly never-ending contempt for the marriage of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson: fans should demand a trade paperback collecting several of the Marvel Universe's most famous weddings, Spider-Man's included. As far as I know, there may be only two marriages in Marvel history that were ever published in any kind of compilation: that of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Girl, and also that of Ant-Man and the Wasp. The marriage of Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson may never have been reprinted in trades, and it's possible that the marriage of Vision and Scarlet Witch wasn't either, nor that of Bruce and Betty Banner.
Of all the different ways there are to reprint many notable storylines in trade format, I think that a wedding compilation of all these different superheroes and non-superheroes is something that should be included. It could have some inspiring value to offer readers, including an appreciation for both Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson as a couple.
So here, in this entry, I'm going to add a number of weddings from the past history of the Marvel Universe that should ALL be reprinted in trades. For example:
The Fantastic First wedding. The very first one I know of in Marvel history, and I can't think of any that might've come before that. Almost every superhero in the MCU at the time was invited to the grand ceremony where Reed Richards and Sue Storm tied the knot.
Ant-Man and the Wasp's wedding.
Vision and Scarlet Witch. Edwin Jarvis, Tony Stark's bulter who also served as the main caretaker for the Avengers mansion, first saw the love that began between the beauty and the android, and the other superheroes soon became aware of it too, and eventually, they were married.
Quicksilver and Crystal. Theirs took place in Attilan, kingdom of the Inhumans.
The marriage of Cyclops and Jean Grey.
And then, lest we forget, the Spider-Marriage! That would have to be the most important part of all for any collection of marriages in the Marvel Universe. Stan Lee came back to the writer's desk to help in writing up this famous moment in Spider-History.
So there we have a few examples of weddings from years before. One problem: at least 3 of these marriages here broke up, and we'd have to hope that the idea of a collection of wedding stories wouldn't be taken the wrong way. IMO, those of these marriages that dissolved are practically worth putting back together again, and not going the Humpty-Dumpty route, and the marriages that have stayed intact should remain that way.
The idea here for a Marvel weddings and marriages trade paperback is something that should be meant to draw appreciation for the couples starring in these famous events, and perhaps even to make a call for mending those that fell apart. It is something that can and should be done, and if any of the marriages featured here aren't available in trade format, they should be. And that's what this topic is meant to call for and encourage.
