Why does the Queen of England consider Grant Morrison worthy of an MBE?

Hard to believe, but the Queen of England's added Grant Morrison to the honors list on her birthday. What makes this even harder to understand is why she would do this after Morrison and Mark Millar once put together a would-be satire called Big Dave that was a lurid attack on the monarchy. This writer at Newsarama thinks it's funny, but I don't find it even remotely so, and no matter what the monarchy's political beliefs, what they did in 2000AD back in the early 90s was tasteless and repellant.

Clearly, this is a case of politics making strange bedfellows.

Honors have become dumbed down to the point of being an embarrassment, much like the Medal of Freedom and the Nobel Peace Prize.

She ought to put her foot down and refuse on some of these, but unfortunately the monarchies have become a mere function of the modern liberal bureaucracy in Europe.

I wish the old houses could return to their former glory instead of willingly being used as internet fodder and tourist attractions.

Geez, and I thought it was bad enough when Paul McCartney, whose activist activities are far more annoying than the tripe he has spewed out on just about every solo album he has released (particularly during the 1970s), was knighted.

  • I'm Avi Green

  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
