ASM 700 changes Spidey from superior to inferior
And the worst part is, as that blogger is telling, no matter how angry we fans become, it'll still sell, because the collector's mentality of the 1990s (and even before that) still holds fast. It's jaw-dropping how even today, there's still a shocking problem with addicts who waste busloads of money instead of using that money to buy older and better products, or to buy newer products from other companies who could be doing a lot better story-wise than Marvel and DC are now. Thanks to the addiction mentality, Marvel and DC have not been afraid to offend fans of their heroes and the co-stars for many years now. It's only when anybody who recognizes that what they're doing is wrong wakes up and smells the coffee and stops buying the desecrated series that they'll come to their senses and recognize the mistakes they're making. I learned this several years ago and have stopped spending money on these brand new monstrosities by writers, artists and editors who're filled with alarming contempt even for new audiences. Why won't those still left do the same? It makes no difference if what's seen in the 700th Spidey issue will be changed back in a couple months; the obsession Marvel's staff has with harrassing the intellect of the Spider-Fans, which has completely taken the place of plausible storytelling, is a serious problem, and so long as they're doing that, it's not worth wasting time on a series they no longer want to appeal to the masses.
Labels: bad editors, dreadful writers, marvel comics, Spider-Man
It boggles the mind how Marvel's business model when it comes to ASM is: "Let's tick off as many people as possible and then rub salt in the wounds."
I used to spend a pretty penny on comics, and OMD ended it over night. I still sporadically buy stuff from them, but I spend a fraction of what I did years ago. Why? Because the editors are jerks.
