Latest Avengers story by Hickman sounds similar to Bendis's work on X-Men
The team gets yet another problem in issue 25: the sudden appearance of the original Avengers squad from 1963, including Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp.Sure, I'll bet there are. More likely there's plenty of boredom to come from too much of these stunts.
On the surface, there is a similarity to what Brian Michael Bendis is doing in All-New X-Men, bringing the original mutant group from the 1960s to the present, Brevoort says, but the Avengers tale is definitely a different story right from the start.
The issue opens with Maria Hill descending from a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, walking into a cordoned-off superhuman event and seeing the body of Ant-Man, Hank Pym.
"He's actually dead on page 4 of Avengers 25. Maybe Paul Rudd will be the new Ant-Man," Brevoort quips, referring to the recent casting of the Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie.
That's the kickoff to the story, Brevoort adds, and it then cuts back four hours to show how the past Avengers end up in the present. "There are plenty of big ideas and crazy shenanigans and jaw-dropping moments to come."
The stunt actually sounds vaguely reminiscent of the teenage Tony Stark story from 1995, when the present day Tony went berserk and the Avengers brought his past self into the present. What is the point of this tale, other than an obvious attempt to mirror last year's movie lineup?
And once again, it sounds like Hank Pym's been given some of the worst treatment possible.
