Even young adult novels don't substitute for comics

DC's hired authors to write young adult novels based on their heroes, and the article says that:
This big news shows an increased commitment from DC Comics to reach out beyond the comic books and movies in pull in new readers.
Correction, it's only other than the comics, and has been for years. Hence, all the focus they've lavished on movies, not all of which have proven successful, whether critically (as with Batman vs. Superman) or financially (as with the Jonah Hex and Green Lantern films). So this is not big news at all. Really big news would be that they were licensed or sold to a source that was actually willing to take the art form of comics seriously, and produce stories with actual meaning that stay true to what made them work years before. That's not what's happening, so it's all just more of the same.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
