Luke Cage solo series is going to uphold government healthcare
Luke ends the ensuing fight quickly and with an uncharacteristic level of viciousness that shocks him, and leads him to wonder whether he’s become infected with whatever killed Newton and the others. When Luke realizes that he’s forgotten his daughter’s name, he seeks out medical help to determine just what’s wrong with him, and while all of his vitals check out normally, a doctor informs him that he’s beginning to show the earliest signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). It’s a real neurodegenerative disease caused by sustained trauma to the head, and you may already be familiar with it in connection to events within the NFL.I honestly don't understand how a guy who's supposed to be impervious to that kind of damage could wind up getting it. It sounds contrived, all for the sake of what's to follow:
The strain put on our healthcare system is a major theme in this Luke Cage comic that feels very of the times, and introducing this particular medical dilemma adds an interesting new part of Luke’s identity that’s worth deeper exploration. Luke’s strength and his ability to take a punch have never been the most interesting things about him because, relatively speaking, those powers are fairly common. They really only become fascinating in a story like this that frames them in a new context.Hmm, very fishy way of talking about Luke's powers. The writer sounds more like somebody who never appreciated the old Bronze Age origins inspired by the blaxploitation films of the early 70s, and besides, it's not like Cage was ever inherently invulnerable anyway. And if the first line says something, it's going to allude to bad concepts like Obamacare? Sigh. It most certainly does feel of the times, and won't age well either. And if all the writer cares about is the powers and not the personalities, then no wonder his commentary falls flat.
Since we're on the subject, the TV show based on Luke Cage isn't faring much better, as the star of the show was panned by TV viewers for insulting Ariana Grande:
The star of the Marvel series Luke Cage apologized Saturday for posting a tweet appearing to condone a bishop groping singer Ariana Grande during Aretha Franklin’s funeral on Friday.Well this sure isn't going to bolster the reputation of the TV show any more than the current comics series will be with its current subject matter. Who knows, there's probably already a few liberal leanings prevalent in the teleplays too. And for the millionth time, I will say it: the bald-headed look Luke's had forced on him for more than 15 years already is terrible and does a real disfavor to a fantastic creation. And thanks to the social justice mentality even Brian Bendis was instrumental in clogging into Marvel, that's why it's unlikely they'll stop this ridiculous charade any time soon.
Mike Colter, who plays the lead role in the Netflix series, replied to a tweet from Trevor Noah depicting Grande reportedly being groped on Friday with a series of laughing emojis and the caption, “Now THIS is how you shoot your shot! Zero F***!”
Social media users were outraged at his statement, with some users suggesting that Marvel should fire him for his behavior.
